My Experience
Near Lake Okeechobee not far from Stuart and Jupiter.
I needed a free location to explore the beaches north and south of West Palm Beach and DuPuis worked out well.
It is a very popular free camp area and there are plenty of reviews and videos online but most of the descriptions are confusing. Please make sure you book the non-equestrian campground unless you have a tent or pop-up trailer (you can then also book the family camp).
There are two gates and the lock combination works at both. Use my waypoints above to find the correct gate and camp. Use the locked Gate 3 for the equestrian and non-equestrian campgrounds. To reach the family campground, enter via the public access Gate 1 (open) then look for the family campground Gate (locked) on the left.
If you camp at the Family Campground, you can drive west to the Non-equestrian Campground to shower and get water or dump. It is too far to walk!
The Family Campground has sites on both sides of a circular road surrounding a small lake. You pick an open site upon arrival. Sites are on grass, they are fairly large and many offer shade but the lack of vegetation between sites creates a privacy issue.
The sites on the outside of the circle road offer more privacy.
Verizon worked well.
The non-equestrian camp is larger and can handle big rigs but road noise can be an issue for sites 20-28. It is fabulous to have free camping with showers and water and the security of hosts! No wonder it is one of the most recommended campgrounds by RVers on a budget!
If your rig is 35 feet or longer, try for sites 1-5, or 23-28. Be careful of the loop because it gets muddy up near site 14. It is best to park near the host and walk to inspect the sites.
Sites 6 – 13 are smaller and under tree cover and not suitable for solar.
Verizon works well.
Its popularity makes DuPuis challenging because you have to take what you can get most of the time. This struggle to find a suitable site means DuPuis is not one of my top choices, but I still recommend the two camps.
